2017 Tick Update
We have had the warmest winter on record therefore the tick infestation will be a real problem this coming season. Dr. Gourdaz Molaei, a researcher at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven, has his team test ticks for lyme and other diseases and the results have been staggering! Recently 65 ticks were tested at a 50 percent positive infection rate, as opposed to last years rate of 30 percent. A new tick born virus has surfaced in Connecticut, borrelia miyamotoi. Our suggestion in addition to the chemical applications would be mechanical in nature such as; undergrowth removal and vector control. Mice are the primary problem, carrying fifty to one hundred nymphal ticks on their head alone.
We are one of the most respected, licensed full-service tick extermination companies in Fairfield County Connecticut. The owners of Colonial Tree care do the applications, so you can expect great care and quality work at reasonable rates.

Be Tick Safe
-
Stay ten feet away from meadows and heavily wooded areas.
-
An example of a Safe zone would be areas of lawn mowed below ankle level.
-
Nymphal ticks seek refuge in leaf litter, 71% of lyme disease cases occur in this stage
-
Knowing the ticks biological tendencies and preferences can help you as a home owner eliminate contact in a possible harborage area.
-
Keep play equipment, tables, chairs...etc, in the sun.
-
Keep trees pruned to allow the sun to shine through.
-
A Nine Foot gravel or wood chip barrier around the premises greatly reduces the probability of migration.
